Abingworth life science investment

Investment criteria

The most important investment criteria are strong management and novel technology that offers a significant improvement over current approaches. We are not generally looking for marginal improvements over existing technology.

People

Abingworth invests in outstanding entrepreneurs, ideally with a proven track record of success.

Science and Technology
Abingworth is committed to backing scientific and technical excellence. Outstanding science and technology applied in strategically important areas has a high chance of being funded.

Market and Commercial Opportunity
Abingworth is keen to invest in companies that have the potential to make a significant commercial impact addressing large market opportunities. A key focus of Abingworth’s efforts is the discovery of new medicines in major therapeutic areas as well as the development of technology to advance these discoveries.

Intellectual property
Strong intellectual property and patents can be of critical importance in establishing technology leadership. However, it is not essential for them to be in place at the time we invest.

Co-investors
Abingworth can help to raise funding by putting together a syndicate of investors. It is important for us to work with a high quality group of experienced co-investors who share our investment philosophy.

Abingworth’s approach is long-term and focused. We have a strong team that supports and builds enduring relationships with management through open and clear communication. Abingworth seeks to back the best people and technology available to create world-class companies in the life sciences arena.

Ian Nicholson, CEO of Chroma Therapeutics
Abingworth has made a hugely valuable contribution to Chroma’s early development and has been fundamental in building the company from the start. Abingworth’s ability to go beyond the normal financial support into areas such as legal and HR assistance provide a true differentiator within the life science venture community.
